The Convex House

The Convex House

A contemporary new-build home is designed to connect with nature and tread lightly on the landscape.

Nestled in the woodland, the Convex House sits on a sloping site in Gerrards Cross, with many mature trees limiting the footprint. Its crescent-like form seamlessly follows the existing topography, curving with the landscape and steering clear of root protection zones.

Windows are carefully placed to frame views of the surrounding woodland and allow dappled light to filter through the trees into the open-plan living space, and upstairs bedrooms. A family home for a changing climate, sustainability is prioritised by ensuring passive solar design and thermal efficiency.

A natural green roof encourages the house to become one with nature over time. Flint, a locally-sourced material historically mined on site, is chosen to clad the exterior, allowing the house to further merge with the landscape, and blend in with its natural surroundings.
