The Hipped Roof
A new-build home that embraces its existing context, this detached house takes on the form of the surrounding suburban housing, while crisp, considered detailing elevates the design for a modern context.
Celebrating the interplay of patterns, textures and materials, the exterior is divided into thirds, with brick on the ground floor, rough-cast lime render above, and clay tiles on the hipped roof. Contrasting brown and red tiles result in an eye-catching roof pattern that creates an almost pixelated effect from afar.
Internally, this project makes clever use of space, creating a two-storey, two-bedroom home within the absolute minimum footprint outlined by The London Plan. An open-plan living area at ground floor maximises the layout, while the upstairs bedrooms gain vertical space through high ceilings that open up to the roof’s structure.
