Wadhal is an architecture studio based in London, creating narrative-led spaces that reconsider design, tradition and culture.
Founded by Fahad Malik, Wadhal delivers residential and commercial projects from concept through to built reality. Inspired by contradictions, the work of the practice is responsive. Each project takes on its own methodology, a story that reflects changes in context, climate, and character.
Wadhal is a tribal name found in Mianwali, Namal Lake and the surrounding land in Pakistan. Its literal meaning translates to an increase, surplus or the notion of exceeding limitations.
Fahad Malik, Architect
Fahad grew up in Islamabad in the ‘90s and moved to London at nine years old before studying at the Glasgow School of Art & qualifying at The Bartlett School of Architecture. Fahad values getting to know his clients intimately, understanding the story of their past, reflecting on current lifestyles and considering aspirations for the future. This gives each project a consistent identity from the first sketch to the finished design.
Walid Bhatt, Architectural Assistant
Walid studied at Central Saint Martins & The Royal College of Art and is currently completing his Postgraduate Certificate at the University of Cambridge. His work sits between two poles: a reverence for the everyday alongside a radical spirit informed by art and cultural influences inspired by his heritage.
Karen O’Leary, Studio Manager
Karen grew up on the east coast of Ireland. After studying at Trinity College Dublin, she completed a Master’s at Oxford Brookes and moved to London soon after. With a background in publishing, marketing and studio operations, Karen supports the smooth running of the practice and is inspired by the power of storytelling in design.
